Supporting Rural Educators & Enlivening Classroom Curricula

Rural schools in Corrèze often face unique pedagogical dynamics, including multi-level classrooms where a single teacher instructs children across several grades simultaneously (e.g., CP to CM2). In this educational environment, having access to rich, professionally curated literary resources provides essential differentiation that helps every child progress at their own developmental pace.

The Association des Amis de la Licorne partners with public elementary schools in Liginiac, Neuvic, and neighboring cantons to supplement formal schooling with joyful, exploratory literacy interventions. Rather than imposing rigid academic demands, our volunteer facilitators bring excitement, theatrical reading, and multisensory storytelling into classrooms, proving to children that reading is not a tedious chore, but an exhilarating doorway into adventure and self-discovery.

Key Educational Initiatives for Local Classrooms

Our educational committee operates four structured programs throughout the September-to-June academic calendar:

The Thematic Book Trunks (*Les Malles Thématiques*)

Custom-curated trunks containing 30 to 45 high-quality books (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and graphic adaptations) delivered directly to classroom teachers for six-week loan periods. Themes include: Biodiversity of the Dordogne, Medieval Knights & Castles of Limousin, Space Exploration, and World Folktales.

Classroom Library Visits & Borrower Initiation

Bi-monthly scheduled visits where entire classrooms walk to the municipal library in Le Bourg. Students learn how to locate books using catalog call numbers, participate in read-aloud sessions, and check out two books of their own choosing to take home to their families.

The Annual Spring Poetry Gathering (*Le Printemps des Poètes*)

In March, volunteers host creative poetry workshops in schools, helping children compose original verses celebrating nature, seasons, and village life. The program culminates in a public recitation evening in the municipal hall where children perform their works before parents and elders.

Complete Non-Commercial Integrity in School Settings

We strictly respect the secular and commercial neutrality of the French public school system (*principe de laïcité et de neutralité commerciale*). We never distribute commercial advertising, promotional flyers for paid services, or corporate branded materials to students or teachers.

All reading passports, bookmarks, certificates, and book trunks provided by our association are funded through our municipal grant and volunteer dues, serving purely public educational objectives.
